PUC Welcomes Announcement on Suspended Time-of-Use Rates
Sault Ste. Marie (March 24, 2020) – Today, the Government of Ontario announced that as of midnight tonight, households, farms and small businesses who pay time-of-use electricity rates will be charged off-peak rates 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the next 45 days.
This welcomed announcement means that PUC residential and small business customers will see savings on their next electricity bill.
“PUC appreciates the responsiveness of the Government of Ontario to work with Local Distribution Companies (LDCs) to help our customers during this difficult time,” stated Robert Brewer, President & CEO, PUC Services Inc. “As more people in our community are working from home or remain in self-isolation, this measure is another way we can help our customers who are facing uncertainty.”
No action is required by electricity consumers; this change will be applied automatically for everyone paying time-of-use rates, and customers will see the lower rate reflected on electricity bills in the next billing cycle.
PUC has also joined LDCs across Ontario in suspending all disconnections until July 31, 2020 and is working with customers to access financial assistance programs.
