Job Description:

PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the supply and delivery of electricity and drinking water, energy services and the treatment of water and wastewater.

Who is eligible?

A university or college graduate who has graduated within the last three years from an accredited college or university.  The candidate must be a graduate of a post-secondary degree or diploma program.  This is an NOHFC funded position for first full-time employment in the candidate’s field of study.

As a Communications Coordinator Intern, the primary responsibilities of this position are as follows:

  • Supports the Manager, Customer Engagement & Corporate Communications and the Conservation & Demand Management (CDM) Officer in various communication and public engagement strategies, by performing the following activities:
    • Assist with planning, developing and coordinating PR and CDM outreach strategies;
    • Organize and participate in events;
    • Research, draft and/or edit communication tools;
    • And as required, liaise with and answer enquiries from media, customers and other organizations.
  • Coordinate and manage PUC’s corporate social media platforms and company website; and
  • When needed, support the Executive Assistant.

Qualifications:

  • University Degree or College Diploma in Public Relations, Event Management, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field;
  • Must meet the NOHFC eligibility criteria;
  • Experience in event management, marketing, or corporate communications would be considered an asset; 
  • Intermediate level in Microsoft Office, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, with good working knowledge of current social media tools and website CMS (content management systems)
  • Working knowledge of current public relations and communications strategies, including issues management, and media relations;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in decisions regarding confidential matters;
  • Excellent writing skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to work as part of a team; and
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Ontario driver's licence.
