PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the supply and delivery of electricity and drinking water, and energy services and the treatment of water and wastewater.

As the Substation Electrician, your duties will include:

  • Under the direction of the department leadership team and the Lead Hand, perform maintenance, repairs, and switching and testing of substations & electrical system equipment.
  • Organize and coordinate SCADA, protection and control, distribution automation, and communications projects.
  • Maintain a stable and reliable supply of power to the company’s customers.
  • Develop job plans and tailboards to ensure all work complies with OHSA and internal policies and procedures.

 

Qualifications:

  • A post-secondary Electrical Engineering Technology Program or equivalent (combination of education and related experience acquired through 3-5 years working in an electrical industry or electrical utility field).
  • Current hold, or the ability to obtain a MEARIE Journeyman Substation Electrician Certification.
  • Hold and maintain a valid Ontario driver’s license.
  • Sound technical knowledge as well as experience in electric stations, SCADA operations, maintenance, repair, testing and installation of various types of instruments, relays, meters, communication and control circuits.
  • Strong knowledge of related legislation, codes, standards and practices.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be self-motived and able to work independently.
  • Must be functional in the use of computers and associated software.
  • Sound knowledge of Health and Safety procedures.
  • Ability to respond in a reasonable time to after-hour callouts when required.
  • Out-of-town work assignments may be required.
