PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the supply and delivery of electricity and drinking water, and energy services and the treatment of water and wastewater.

As the Environmental Centre Lab Technician, your duties will include:

  • Maintain and operate all related equipment required for the operation of the Environmental Centre Laboratory (Wastewater Treatment Plants) in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Perform analysis such as, but not limited to, BOD, wet chemistry, solids, pH, phosphorus, TKN, alkalinity, VFA’s and microscopic examination.
  • The development of proper QA-QC to maintain sample integrity within the parameters of Standard Methods, as well as sample analysis documentation on computer.
  • Communicates and interacts with the public, government inspectors, contractors, staff and students.
  • Ability to be on-call on a scheduled basis for after-hours emergencies.

Qualifications:

  • At minimum, post-secondary diploma in Chemical or Biological Technology, with emphasis on analytical sampling and testing.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Ontario driver’s license.
  • Must maintain a high level of compliance with the Certificate of Approval and MECP regulations and policies under the operating direction of PUC Services Inc.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience with analysis of samples and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • High attention to detail with proven troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management and analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
