NOTICE OF VACANCY

SUBSTATION ELECTRICIAN 

PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the supply and delivery of electricity and drinking water, energy services and the treatment of water and wastewater.

As the Substation Electrician, your duties will include:

  • Under the direction of the Manager, Supervisor, and/or Lead Hand, you will perform maintenance, repairs, switching & testing of substation & electrical system equipment to promote efficient, effective and safe deployment of electrical systems and to maintain a stable and reliable supply of power to the company’s customers. 

You are the ideal candidate if you possess:

  • A post-secondary Electrical Engineering Technician / Technology Program or equivalent, which is a combination of education and related experience normally acquired by working in an electrical industry or electrical utility workplace for a minimum of 3-5 years;
  • Able to successfully complete the MEA Theory Qualifying examination;
  • Sound technical knowledge as well as experience in electric stations, SCADA operations, maintenance, repair, testing and installation of various types of instruments, relays, meters, communication and control circuits;
  • Strong knowledge of related legislation, codes, standards and practices;
  • Good oral and written communication skills to keep logs, complete reports and deliver training;
  • Must be self-motived and able to work independently;
  • Must be functional in the use of computers and associated software;
  • Sound working knowledge of Health and Safety;
  • Ability to respond in a reasonable time to after-hour callouts when required.
  • Required to have and maintain a Class “G” licence;
  • The candidate, if not a qualified MEA Substation Electrician, will be required to travel to an out-of-town training location based upon a training program developed by the Company.
