As the GIS & Records Technician your duties will include:

  • Prepare and maintain system operating maps, drawings and records associated with the installation of utility plant using CAD, GIS, and other computer database technologies.
  • Apply prescribed standards, specifications, and practices for the preparation of drawings for construction, maintenance, and operations.
  • Perform data and spatial analysis/queries.
  • Conduct a variety of activities to ensure accurate and up-to-date records are created and maintained for the daily operations of the various utilities and to ensure accurate archives are maintained for future reference.
  • Perform and /or assist in field service work.
  • Revise and maintain up-to-date records, drawings, maps, and schematics.

Qualifications:

  • At minimum, a post-secondary diploma in a Civil Engineering Technology program, with a GIS or CAD specialty, or equivalent.
  • Experience working in an engineering, municipal or utility workplace for a minimum of five (5) years.
  • Sound working knowledge of engineering principles related to water distribution facilities.
  • Strong working knowledge and ability to operate systems, particularly GIS, CAD, and database programs.
  • Ability to safely use a variety of electronic and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and to take initiative.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong organizational skills.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Ontario driver’s license.
