PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the supply and delivery of electricity and drinking water, and energy services and the treatment of water and wastewater.

PUC offers a dynamic, challenging and rewarding work environment that encourages collaboration and innovative thinking. We are seeking a new member to join our Engineering Department. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong communication with an innate desire to learn and grow.

Reporting to the Manager, Electrical Engineering, the Electric Engineering Technician will perform a variety of activities related to the design, construction, operations, and maintenance associated with the electrical distribution system.

As the Engineering Technician (Electric), your duties will include:

  • Design of overhead and underground electric distribution facilities.
  • Design of streetlighting and fibre-optic telecommunications facilities.
  • Prepare work orders and detail estimates.
  • Prepare and evaluate construction tenders and perform layout and minor survey work, inspect, verify and certify contractor installations and, if necessary, authorize minor changes during construction as needed.
  • Analyze final project costs and investigate variances.
  • Conduct a variety of activities to maintain accurate and up-to-date records for the daily operations of the various utilities and to ensure accurate archives are maintained for future reference.
  • Respond to customer queries or complaints and employ tact and diplomacy to resolve issues.
  • Prepare and maintain operating records, schematics and "as-built" information.

Qualifications:

  • At minimum, a post-secondary diploma as an Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent which is a combination of relevant education and related experience normally acquired by working in an electrical engineering, electrical industrial or electrical utility workplace for a minimum of five (5) years.
  • Sound working knowledge of engineering principles related to electrical distribution systems, streetlighting and fibre optic telecommunications networks.
  • Basic AutoCAD and GIS skills.
  • Strong interpretive and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Ontario driver’s license.
