PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the distribution of electricity, the supply, treatment and distribution of municipal drinking water, and the operation of wastewater treatment facilities.

We are seeking a new member of our team to support Water Distribution Operations and assist in the supervision of staff. The ideal candidate will have technical knowledge, drive, and confidence to lead and strengthen the Water Distribution Team.
The primary responsibilities of this position include:
- Provide support in coordinating and managing capital, operations, maintenance and construction of water distribution systems under the direction of PUC Services Inc. including outside contracts through the safe, efficient, and effective deployment of available resources.
- Conduct a variety of activities to deploy available staff and equipment required to maintain, operate and construct the water distribution system.
- Provide for overall development and training of staff.
- Monitor health and safety compliance through workplace inspections and crew visits, and initiates corrective action, in conjunction with the Department Manager and the Manager, Safety & Operations.
- Ensure operational compliance with all DWQMS requirements, legislation, codes and contracts.
- Establish priorities, schedules availability of staff and ensures accurate payroll time and materials reporting.
- Assess short/long term plans in order to assist in the development of annual and long-term budgets and purchases up to approved levels.
- Ensure job procedures are followed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum post secondary education in Civil Engineering or Environmental – Water Technology, or a related field.
- Able to obtain and maintain a Water Distribution Certificate appropriate for the level of facility.
- Knowledge of Provincial and Federal regulations pertaining to water and wastewater systems, including DWQMS
- Minimum of 5 years of related work experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Knowledge and Experience with asset management and developing and delivering preventative maintenance plans.
- Self-motivated and confident leader with strong communication and team building skills.
- Excellent computer skills with demonstrated ability to work with software such as Microsoft Office, and Work, ARC View GIS and Management Systems.
- Strong analytical and technical skills to solve complex technical problems.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement in decisions regarding operational processes.
- Ability to be on-call for after hour emergencies on a scheduled basis.
- Deemed a competent Supervisor under the Health and Safety Act.
- Must hold and maintain a valid Ontario driver’s license.
