PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the distribution of electricity, the supply, treatment, and distribution of municipal drinking water, and the operation of wastewater treatment facilities. 

PUC offers a dynamic, challenging and rewarding work environment that encourages collaboration and innovative thinking. We are seeking a new member to join our Engineering team.  The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, innovative, demonstrating strong technical knowledge, and an innate desire to learn and grow.

Reporting to the Manager, Electrical Engineering, the Project Control Manager will work with technical experts to oversee and/or execute project control activities to ensure projects are completed within scope, on time and on budget. This role will also be accountable to develop and maintain project control and reporting templates and tools as well as review processes and utilize innovation and technology to continuously improve efficiency within the operational division.

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Ensure the application of adequate standards and practices by PUC employees.
  • Manage client satisfaction.
  • Propose and implement project controls best practices, including scheduling, estimating, cost controls, risk management and project reporting.
  • Ensure necessary approvals are obtained for work to proceed and that the work is coordinated with applicable authorities and other utilities as applicable.
  • Develop and analyzes project costs and investigates and report on variances.
  • Develop and analyzes project schedules and investigates and report on variances.
  • Manage contract change order processes.
  • Lead project meetings, reporting, and progress tracking.
  • Review existing processes and identify areas for improvement, then enhance and streamline utilizing automation and technology.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in planning, designing, and implementing process improvement initiatives.
  • Gather business requirements and develop scorecards, reports, and dashboards to support business decisions.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews of project documents, legal agreements.
  • Track project performance to ensure both short-term and long-term goals are met. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science or Engineering Technologist with CET designation and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Project Management related designation will be considered an asset.
  • A Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario will be considered an asset.
  • Proven work experience in project management and development of process efficiency improvements.
  • Sound working knowledge of engineering and project management tasks and processes related to electric and water distribution and related components, based on a minimum of 5 years experience, preferably in a utility environment or in related industries.
  • Familiarity with applicable legislation related to the supply and delivery of electricity and water is an asset.
  • Self-motivated and confident leader with strong communication and team building skills.
  • Demonstrated an ability to work with software such as Microsoft Office, CAD, GIS and databases.
  • Detail oriented with the commitment to safety.
  • Maintain a valid Ontario Driver's License.
