PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the distribution of electricity, the supply, treatment and distribution of municipal drinking water, and the operation of wastewater treatment facilities.

We are seeking a new member to join our Stations & Metering team.  The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, demonstrating strong technical knowledge, and an innate desire to learn and grow.

Reporting to the Manager, Stations & Metering, and as a member of the Management Team, the Supervisor, Stations & Metering will coordinate and manage department staff and activities to ensure the safe and reliable supply of electricity to customers as well as accurate electric and water metering systems.

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Ensure a stable and reliable supply of electricity to the company’s customers.
  • Ensure accurate metering of customers’ consumption of electricity and water.
  • Oversees the scheduling and assignment of department staff and equipment in a productive and efficient manner to ensure the reliability of the electric distribution system.
  • Ensures compliance with all legislation and regulations such as Ontario Energy Board, IESO, and Regulation 22/04. Ensures staff adheres to all health and safety requirements prescribed by law and the company through workplace inspections, crew visits, and initiation of corrective action.  
  • Supervise and monitor the safe, and efficient performance of capital upgrades, operation and maintenance of electrical stations, SCADA systems, system control, electric and water metering systems and associated systems and sub systems under the department’s control. Effectively assist with change management when upgrades are completed.
  • Implement corporate policies and programs, as well as reviewing and maintaining department SOP’s.
  • Assist in the planning and design for sustainability and reliability of the electric distribution system.
  • Provide support and technical expertise to assist in troubleshooting and problem solving in high pressure situations. Supports planned and unplanned restoration of electrical supply to customers.
  • Monitors employee performance, conducts annual performance reviews, and assist in recruitment.
  • Provide quality services to our customers in a safe, and efficient manner.

Qualifications:

  • At minimum, a post-secondary diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, with five years experience working in an electrical distribution environment.
  • Journeyman Certification in a related electrical field. Journeyperson Substation Electrician or Journeyperson Meter Technician would be an asset.  
  • Experience with transmission systems would be considered an asset.
  • Detail oriented with a commitment to safety.
  • Sound technical knowledge and experience working with electrical power systems and controls as well as electric and water metering systems,
  • Positive outlook, self-motivated and sound leadership skills to motivate and direct staff.
  • Strong knowledge of related legislation, codes, standards, and practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, and oral/written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to take initiative. Be able to work for prolonged periods of time and respond after regular hours in emergency situations. Ability to be on-call on a scheduled basis.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities with experience making decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with software such as Microsoft Office, SCADA, GIS, and other databases.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Ontario driver’s license.
