The PUC Group of Companies (PUC) operate multiple utilities within Ontario that manage the supply and transmission of electricity, the supply, treatment and distribution of drinking water, and the operation of wastewater treatment facilities.

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Vice President of Business Development will provide strategic direction and support in identifying, evaluating, and executing strategic investments, partnerships, and acquisitions with emphasis on driving new growth opportunities for the PUC Group of Companies.   

Responsibilities:

  • Explore innovative business ideas to enhance diversified service offerings.
  • Lead and oversee the identification, assessment and execution of potential mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, investments, and joint ventures that underpin PUC's business development strategic plan.
  • Develop business cases demonstrating that viability of new offerings for the benefit of customers, PUC, and its shareholders.
  • Establish a rigorous process to identify and evaluate investment and acquisition opportunities, including thorough idea generation and screening for executive leadership and stakeholder consideration.
  • Lead the development of business cases and proposals in collaboration with Finance partners and business leaders, ensuring comprehensive cost/ benefit/ ROI analysis.
  • Convey recommendations to the executive leadership team, President & CEO, Board of Directors, and City of Sault Ste Marie, as necessary.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in business activities.
  • Measure and report on business status, implementing corrections or improvements based on feedback from outputs, customers, or internal sources.

Lead and ensure the alignment of new business opportunities with PUC’s values and strategic plan.

Qualifications:

  • At minimum, post secondary degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressive and diversified experience Project Development, Mergers, Strategic Acquisitions and/or Partnerships within a large organization.
  • Energy and/or Water related experience would be a strong asset.
  • Proficient in analyzing and leveraging business metrics for informed decision-making and action.
  • Exhibited ability to effectively lead, influence, develop and mentor staff towards achieving corporate objectives and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders.
  • Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills, demonstrating intellectual rigor and a willingness to take calculated risks in support of the company's goals and ideas.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management with cross-functional teams, employing problem-solving skills to overcome obstacles.
  • Ability to work in an environment that is fast paced, while being able to prioritize multiple, often competing priorities with a positive attitude.
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills.
