Ontario Electricity Rebate

Ontario Electricity Rebate

Effective November 1, 2019, the Ontario government has introduced the new Ontario Electricity Rebate. All residential and small commercial customers are automatically eligible for the rebate. You do not need to apply.

Some classes of customers, such as farms, long-term care homes, multi-unit complexes, retirement residences, and mobile home parks are required to complete a self-declaration form. Please see “Who needs to apply for the rebate?” below for details.

The Ontario Electricity Rebate applies to electricity consumed on or after November 1, 2019. For new applications, the rebate will apply to the first bill following receipt of the application and will not apply retroactively.

What will I see on my bill?

You will see a new line item called the Ontario Electricity Rebate that shows the total amount of your rebate.

If you receive the Ontario Electricity Support Program rebate, you will see an additional line item on your bill called “Total Provincial Support” that summarizes your rebate amounts.

Who is Eligible?

The new Ontario Electricity Rebate is for households, farms, long-term care homes, retirement homes, mobile home parks and many small businesses.

All residential and small commercial customers are automatically eligible for the rebate. You do not need to do anything.

If your account is for a farm, long-term care home, retirement home, mobile home park or multi-unit complex, you need to complete a new self-declaration form and submit it to our office. Please see “Who needs to apply for the rebate” for details on whether you need to submit a self-declaration form.

Forms are processed as they are received. The OER will apply to the next electricity bill based on read dates after receipt of the form. Rebates do not apply retroactively.

NOTE: Effective July 1, 2022, the eligibility is being expanded to include the following types of accounts:

1.         Common areas in residential multi-unit complexes such as condominium buildings
