Powerline Technician (3 Positions Available)

PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the supply and delivery of electricity and drinking water, and energy services and the treatment of water and wastewater.

As the Powerline Technician, your duties will include:

  • Under the direction of the lead hand, supervisor and/or manager, promotes the overall efficient, effective and safe deployment of services and equipment.
  • Construct/maintain both electrical distribution and streetlighting infrastructure systems.
  • Responds to customer concerns/issues regarding electrical operations with courtesy and professionalism.
  • Adhere to all applicable policies, guidelines, and regulations, (OHSA, IHSA, ESA, etc.).
  • Monitors quality assurance for departmental contractors.
  • Respond to after-hours calls as required.
  • Out-of-town work assignment may be required.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold and maintain MEA Powerline Technician certification or equivalent (ie. IHSA/EUSA, 434A Red Seal Interprovincial, etc.).
     
  • At minimum, post-secondary Powerline Technician Diploma or equivalent, or equivalent, with successful completion of post-secondary electrical theory courses. (Equivalency shall be determined by the company).
     
  • Electrical utility related experience would be an asset.
     
  • Hold and maintain a valid AZ or AZ restricted Ontario driver’s license.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgement.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to safely use a variety of electronic and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to operate computerized systems.
  • By nature of the position, the individual must be physically fit to perform the work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to be on call on a scheduled basis, and/or respond in reasonable time to after-hours emergency call outs.
