PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the distribution of electricity, the supply, treatment and distribution of municipal drinking water, and the operation of wastewater treatment facilities.

 

PUC offers a dynamic, challenging and rewarding work environment that encourages collaboration and innovative thinking. We are seeking a new member of our team to support and lead the Smart Grid electric system operation as part of System Operations in the Stations & Metering Department and supervise operations and technical staff. The ideal candidate will have technical knowledge, drive, and confidence to lead and develop the expanding smart grid operations for the utility.

 

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Provides leadership and technical direction to electrical system control operations staff with emphasis on Smart Grid, SCADA and AMI systems.
  • Lead role in integrated smart grid systems as well as technical support to Stations and Metering operations focused on electricity delivery to customers.
  • Provide quality services to our customers in a safe, effective, and efficient manner.

Qualifications:

  • Possess an Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent, with a Professional Engineering designation (P. Eng.).
  • Applicants with an Engineer in Training (EIT) designation and related experience, or with a post-secondary degree/diploma in electrical engineering, or equivalent (which is a combination of post-secondary education and related experience normally acquired by working in an electrical distribution operations or engineering environment for a minimum of 5 years) are encouraged to apply.
  • Have gained a sound working knowledge of engineering principles related to electrical distribution and associate communications and controls systems, ideally with five years experience in an engineering, industrial or utility environment with experience in SCADA, AMI and electric system control operations.
  • Familiarity with applicable legislation, codes, standards and practices related to the supply and delivery of electricity is an asset.
  • Is a self-motivated and confident leader with strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Have demonstrated an ability to work with software such as Microsoft Office, CAD, GIS and databases.
  • Can apply strong analytical and technical skills to solve complex technical problems.
  • Have experience with cost estimating, developing budgets, project management and asset management.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Ontario Driver's License.
  • Ability to respond after regular hours in emergency situations.
