NOTICE OF VACANCY

Environmental Operator

PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the supply and delivery of electricity and drinking water, energy services and the treatment of water and wastewater.

 

You are the ideal candidate if you possess:

  • Possess, at a minimum, a post-secondary diploma in Water Resources Technology or Environmental Engineering Technology;
  • Hold a minimum of a Class 1 Wastewater Operator Licence issued by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (other candidates may be considered)
  • Will continue to work towards certification to the highest facility level as required by Ontario Regulation 129/04;
  • Are self-motivated to work independent of other members and are able to organize tasks in an effective and efficient manner;
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to communicate technical information in a tactful and persuasive manner to both internal and external customers;
  • Have the ability to operate a SCADA computerized control system;
  • Possess sound working knowledge of the associated issues of Health and Safety administration;
  • Maintain a high level of compliance with the Environmental Compliance Approvals and MOECC guidelines, and policies under the operating direction of  the PUC and;
  • Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Driver's License and such other necessary certificates and licenses to perform the functions associated with the position.

 

Your duties will include:

  • Maintain and operate all process control and related equipment required for the operation of the Environmental Operations, the related pumping stations, collection systems and combined sewer overflow tanks in an efficient and safe manner;
  • Conduct a variety of activities related to facilities, processes, equipment and systems to ensure that all is operating within established parameters;
  • Maintain, repair and/or replace equipment and structures;
  • Participate in the development and review of contingency plans, operations and maintenance procedures;
  • Communicate and interact with the public, government inspectors, contractors and staff and;
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
