NOTICE OF VACANCY

ELECTRIC SYSTEM OPERATOR

PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste Marie, including the supply and delivery of electricity and drinking water, and energy services and the treatment of water and wastewater.

Qualifications:

  • A post-secondary diploma in an Electrical Technology Field or MEA Journeyperson Certification as a Power Line Technician or Substation Electrician;
  • Able to acquire a MEARIE Electrical Operator Certification and Utility Work Protection Code Certification;
  • A minimum of 2 years working experience on the PUC electrical distribution system or related controls and stations;
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Ontario driver’s license;
  • Excellent analytical and sound leadership skills that will assist you in promoting the overall efficient, effective and safe deployment of electrical system staff and equipment to maintain a stable and reliable supply of power to the company’s customers;
  • The ability to coordinate power restoration activities and provide guidance to field staff to minimize outage scope and duration.  Coordinate with field staff to Administer Work Protection to allow for a safe working environment, often under emergency conditions;
  • Strong technical skills to assist in determining troubleshooting strategy, formulating plans for repair or switching to restore power and for design and editing of SCADA system schematics, related graphics, report generation, alarm points and control schemes within the SCADA system software; and
  • A working knowledge of SCADA system configuration, operations and maintenance, RTU’s, protective relays and other types of control systems.

 

As the Electrical System Operator the primary responsibilities of this position are as follows:

  • Work closely with the Lead Hand Stations and Lead Hand Powerline Technicians, and perform a leading role in coordinating emergency power restoration activities and provide guidance to field staff to minimize outage scope and duration;
  • Administer Utility Work Protection in conjunction with field staff, often under emergency conditions; and
  • Administer, maintain, and configure the electric SCADA System.
