Electrical Distribution Engineer

PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the distribution of electricity, the supply, treatment and distribution of municipal drinking water, and the operation of wastewater treatment facilities.

PUC offers a dynamic, challenging and rewarding work environment that encourages collaboration and innovative thinking. We are seeking a new member of our team to support the Engineering Department and supervise technical staff.   The ideal candidate will have technical knowledge, drive, and confidence to lead and strengthen the Engineering Department.

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Supervise and lead assigned technical staff in a variety of activities related to the engineering design, construction, operations, and maintenance associated with the supply of electrical services.
  • Budgeting, long range planning and asset management planning.
  • Provide quality services to our customers in a safe, effective, and efficient manner.

Qualifications:

  • Ideally possess an Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent, with a Professional Engineering designation (P. Eng.); however, applicants with an Engineer in Training (EIT) designation are encouraged to apply.
  • Have gained a sound working knowledge of engineering principles related to electrical distribution and associate communications and controls systems, ideally with five years experience in an engineering, industrial or utility environment.
  • Familiarity with applicable legislation related to the supply and delivery of electricity is an asset.
  • Are a self-motivated and confident leader with strong communication and team building skills.
  • Have demonstrated an ability to work with software such as Microsoft Office, CAD, GIS and databases.
  • Can apply strong analytical and technical skills to solve complex technical problems.
  • Have experience with cost estimating, developing budgets, project management and asset management.
  • Maintain a valid Ontario Driver's License.
