PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the supply, treatment and distribution of municipal drinking water, the supply of electricity, and the operation of wastewater treatment facilities. 

PUC offers a dynamic, challenging and rewarding work environment that encourages collaboration and innovative thinking. We are seeking a new member of our management team to lead our communications and customer engagement programs. The ideal candidate will be diplomatic, outgoing and customer focused. They will bring strategic thinking and new ideas to the table to strengthen PUC’s reputation and support the growth of the organization. 

Reporting to the President & CEO the Manager, Corporate Communications will be primarily responsible to:

  • Develop and implement a broad range of communications and marketing strategies to support PUC’s Strategic Plan;
  • Implement success measurement tools to gauge effectiveness of the strategies;
  • Design and produce PUC’s marketing, communication and public relations materials for public distribution;
  • Coordinate and issue official responses to media including acting as the spokesperson for PUC where appropriate;
  • Oversee and manage PUC’s digital presence and corporate social media platforms;
  • Liaise with media, city councilors and other key stakeholders;
  • Work with and support members of the Management team as required for customer engagement and corporate communication initiatives;
  • Oversee and mentor one direct report.

Qualifications:

  • A University Degree or College Post-Graduate Certificate in Public Relations, Marketing or Journalism
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in marketing, communications or public relations with demonstrated success;
  • A creative and strategic thinker with well-developed interpersonal skills to skillfully interact with all levels of the organization as well as with the public and other key stakeholders;
  • Experience working with mainstream media and understanding of the digital media landscape (Familiar with current social media tools, tactics);
  • Experience as a corporate spokesperson
  • Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications;
  • Excellent verbal, written, editing and proofing skills with a strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to work in an environment that is fast paced, while being able to prioritize multiple, often competing priorities with a positive attitude;
  • Experience developing and managing budgets.
