ENVIRONMENTAL OPERATOR

PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the supply and delivery of electricity and drinking water, and energy services and the treatment of water and wastewater.

As the Environmental Operator, your duties will include:

• Maintain and operate all process control, and other related equipment required for the operation of the Wastewater plants, the related pumping stations, collection system and sewer overflow tanks in an efficient and safe manner;
• Maintain, repair and/or replace equipment and structures;
• Conducts a variety of activities related to facilities, processes, equipment and systems to ensure that all is operating within established parameters;
• The ability to be on-call on a scheduled basis for after-hours emergencies.

Qualifications:

• A post-secondary diploma in Water Resources Technology or Environmental Engineering Technology;
• Must hold and maintain at least a Class 1 Wastewater Operator Licence issued by the Ministry of Environment Conservation and Parks (other candidates may be considered);
• The successful candidate will work towards certification to the highest facility level as required by Ontario Regulation 129/04;
• Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario driver’s license;
• Maintain all the necessary certificates and licenses to perform the functions associated with the position;
• Good mechanical aptitude;
• Physically fit to move material;
• Self-motivated to work independent of other members and be able to organize tasks in an effective and efficient manner;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as computer skills.
