Job Description:

PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the supply and delivery of electricity and drinking water, and energy services and the treatment of water and wastewater.

As the GIS & Records Technician your duties will include:

  • Prepare and maintain system operating maps, drawings and records associated with the installation of utility plant using CAD, GIS and other computer database technologies;
  • Conduct activities related to locating underground utility plant for customers both internal and external to the company;
  • Assist in the inspection of subdivisions and other projects;
  • Perform and /or assist in field service work;
  • Revise and maintain up-to-date records, drawings, maps, and schematics;
  • As directed upgrade to Field Services Representative to support the Locates function; and
  • As directed perform Labourer duties within Facilities or Water Distribution.

Qualifications:

  • At minimum, a post-secondary diploma in an Engineering Technology program, with a GIS or CAD specialty, or equivalent which is a combination of relevant education and related experience normally acquired by working in an engineering, municipal or utility workplace for a minimum of five (5) years;
  • Sound working knowledge of engineering principles related to electrical or water distribution facilities;
  • Strong working knowledge and ability to operate systems, particularly GIS, CAD and database programs;
  • Ability to safely use a variety of electronic and mechanical equipment and perform manual labour;
  • Ability to work independently and to take initiative;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong organizational skills;
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Ontario driver’s license.
